Scholarships for the Future

Had it not been for the free college education provided by Baruch College, Harvey Wittenberg (’59) never would have realized the goal his parents had for him to obtain a college education. Building on his family’s values and his Baruch College education, he was able to continue his education through graduate school and law school and achieve his personal and professional goals.

According to Harvey, “In recognition of my education at Baruch College, my wife and I are dedicated to creating scholarships so that present and future students without financial means can obtain an education at Baruch College. In that regard, I urge all graduates of Baruch College, regardless of their graduation year, to donate to scholarships for the future of Baruch College students and of our nation.

“May you live healthy and peaceful lives in interesting times.”

Creative Ways to Give

Harvey Wittenberg and his wife, Susan, chose to make their “gift of a lifetime” to Baruch by establishing a Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT). A CRT can be funded with cash or appreciated assets and pays income for life to them for both their lifetimes. At the passing of the surviving spouse the remainder comes to Baruch.

A Charitable Remainder Trust brings the donor considerable and immediate tax deductions, can help avoid capital gains, reduces the donor’s taxable estate and provides lifetime income. Following Harvey’s very creative example, several alums have made or are making similar gifts to Baruch.
