Art Gruber ’64 Uses Gift of Life Insurance Policy to Solidify Mother’s Legacy

Arthur Gruber For Arthur Gruber, his late mother, Rita Greenberg, was a powerful and inspiring force who gave him the encouragement he needed to succeed academically and ultimately emerge from his humble roots. That is why he has established a scholarship in her name to give financially needy Baruch students some of the same opportunities he enjoyed.

A longtime donor, Art has named the Baruch College Fund as the beneficiary of one of his life insurance policies. This will guarantee a permanent legacy in his mother’s name that will, appropriately, assist academically promising students with financial need.

Growing up in the Bronx, “my parents struggled to make a living but provided an environment that encouraged me to succeed scholastically,” Art says. “My mother was a powerful force in my life, providing encouragement always to succeed. When she died, I wanted to honor her memory by providing financial assistance to needy Baruch students.”

After earning his bachelor’s degree in finance and economics, Art, now a resident of Cold Spring, New York, pursued graduate study in finance at American College before launching a long and successful career as an insurance broker and financial advisor. Making a gift of an insurance policy he no longer needs to secure his family’s financial well-being was a perfect way to support future Baruch students while honoring the woman who made such an important difference in Art’s life.

The daughter of Greek immigrants, Art’s late mother struggled in many ways during her life but never allowed her son to forget his potential for success. Establishing the Rita Greenberg Scholarship in her honor guarantees that her inspiration will carry on through the lives of future Baruch College students for generations to come.

As Art says: “What a wonderful way to memorialize a loved one.”
