Parker BBA ’76, MPA ’96, came to Baruch in the 1970s because he was interested in business management. “Then, and now, Baruch had the reputation as the best business college in New York City. The fact that a CUNY education was free was also a major consideration,” he says.

“Baruch made me a well-educated citizen and helped prepare me for a career in NYC government and civil service,” Stephen says. He credits the hard testing regimen of his courses at Baruch with preparing him for the hard civil service tests that he encountered as he progressed through the New York City civil service system.

In gratitude for his successful career as an administrative analyst with the NYC Department of Sanitation, Stephen is giving back to Baruch with two charitable gift annuities.

“My purpose in arranging gift annuities at Baruch is to help provide the wherewithal for students to attend the College and at the same time provide for my own retirement,” he says. “The CGA arrangement benefits me because I will receive a tax deduction for creating each of the CGAs and then a definitive quarterly stream of fixed payments for my lifetime. And afterwards the remainder will benefit the students of Baruch.”

Stephen has been a member of the Baruch Alumni Association since graduation and returns often for seminars and lectures. He shared a quote from Andrew Carnegie that exemplifies his desire to provide financial assistance for future students: “No man becomes rich unless he enriches others.”

“I would advise other alumni to carefully consider the social and financial benefits of arranging a CGA with Baruch College,” Stephen concludes.
